Saydee Pokolo
Saydee is a native of Liberia, from Tugbaken, Maryland County, West Africa. Born the second-oldest child of nine (9) siblings in the Pokolo family, and first among his siblings to obtain his high school Diploma.
Saydee’s determination to succeed in life inspired him to pursue a path of higher education, for which he was rewarded with his bachelor’s degree in Network Engineering.
Having to overcome many challenges living in Liberia, Saydee became traumatized from the negative impacts of the country’s fifteen-year Civil War. Witnessing multiple violent acts in his childhood, which took at least 250,000 lives.
Experiencing no positive in his young life, he began to lose all hope in the world, and saw his aspiration for life and his dreams fading fast.
After high school, Saydee had the opportunity to leave the past behind, traveling to America for a tourism tour and an intercultural exchange event in Chicago.
For the first time in his life, Saydee began to regain some sense of independence and hope for a brighter future. Saydee never returned to Liberia, West Africa. In the pursuit of happiness, Chicago, Illinois, has been his home for ’20’ plus years, where he’s now enjoying life.
Although it was not an easy journey, not having US status in his first 15-plus years was a major challenge, reminding him and bringing back his past versus the American dream.
Saydee was unable to work, go to school, or chase the American dream. He began to sharpen and develop his naturally born artistic skills to utilize as a means of survival. Soon, his works of art began to be noticed by influential people throughout Illinois, such as the Liberian Consulate ( uncle ), the District Bishop of COGIC, and the African Festival in Chicago.
This led to the development of his mastery skills in graphic design, as was recommended by people who had seen his talents. Mastering the technique and skill of ‘Corel Draw’ was learned by trial and error daily on his computer, which he also learned by trial and error with strong determination and
Sooner, in 2003, Saydee realized and developed a passion for computers, the internet, and technology as it increased in the US. He decided to start his technology home-based business. He launched Creative Special Tech, a computer repair service, since there is no means to further his education due to his US status.
Things continually got tougher. And from 2005 to 2007, Saydee began to volunteerily at the ‘Consulate Office in Chicago as an Office Assistant, spending part-time while trying to launch a work-at-home-based business, producing a massive amount of T-shirts and other artistic stuff, featuring noticeable elements on each design. Such as President Barack Obama and the former President of Liberia, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, just a few to name.
Finally, after receiving US citizenship in 2010, Saydee was able to re-enter the world of higher learning. And while working full-time, he enrolled and earned a bachelor’s degree in ‘Networking and Communications Management’ from DeVry University in 2014.
And his business has recently been renamed and rebranded as ‘LIBSPOT AND COMPANIES‘. Today, Saydee is the founder of a freelance technology business called ‘LIBSPOT AND COMPANIES’ and AFROWAR, offering his services for the past 10 years, assisting small businesses with IT issues and graphic design. Saydee often gives freely of his services and talents to empower his friends and the less fortunate in the ‘African’ communities, with or without pay. Saydee also serves as Founder/CEO of Liberianspot, aka LIBSPOT, a tourism website.
For the past years, Saydee has worked as an ‘IT Support Specialist’ with three major companies: Aspire Chicago, Midtown, and NTTData ( Loyola Medical, IT supporting for end users). Currently, working for United Airlines as an IT support Analyst.
Today, life is so better, sweeter in so many positive ways. He has fought hard to accomplish his dreams with aspiration and self-determination. And now married to Antoinette, with five (5) beautiful children, and living in one of Illinois’ finest suburbs, where he bought a five-bedroom home just two years ago, in 2023.
Saydee is now enjoying his beautiful family,
